04/10/2008 Prominent citizens of India have written to the Prime Minister urging him to reconsider the Foreign Contributions (Regulation) Bill, 2006. The proposed law gives authorities the arbitrary power to refuse or cancel registration of organisations, which may put NGOs critical of government policies at risk.

02/19/2008 È la terza legislazione che fallisce il tentativo di riformare la legge 49 sulla “cooperazione allo sviluppo”. Ogni volta che un nuovo governo ci prova, cade. Casualità e coincidenza, certo. Siamo consci che la cooperazione non sia mai stata così prioritaria; né ieri e né oggi. Forse domani, quando si capirà che per abitare l’interdipendenza bisognerà fare i conti con la cooperazione con coloro che stanno oltre mare. Ma sulla 49 non è mai stato facile fare fronte comune. Ha più di 20 anni ed avvalla una concezione di cooperazione non al pari con i tempi. Molto centrale (l’aiuto pensato qui), dipendente dalla politica estera, legata alle imprese italiane che beneficiano degli stessi aiuti, con una concezione di “sviluppo” slegata dai saperi dei territori. Urge, quindi, una riforma. A tal fine vorremmo provocare proprio il pensiero di ciascuno con questa prima ipotesi di “Carta di Trento per una migliore cooperazione”. The annual bird races promote awareness of natural habitats and help collect data. The last race at Bangalore spotted 277 bird species – a quarter of all birds found on the Indian subcontinent.

Hemant Kanitkar in action
01/03/2008 Pune based Hemant Kanitkar was known for using puppets to spread social awareness in his state Maharashtra and other parts of India. His death, due to prolonged illness at a rather young age, has left a void that will be difficult to fill up.

12/27/2007 Medici Senza Frontiere (MSF) ha chiesto alle autorità somale "il rilascio immediato e la garanzia dell'incolumità delle due operatrici rapite a Bossaso in Somalia". Mercedes García, medico spagnolo, e Pilar Bauza, infermiera argentina, sono state rapite mentre si recavano al centro nutrizionale allestito per trattare i bambini malnutriti negli adiacenti campi di sfollati interni e rifugiati a Bossaso. Secondo la stampa spagnola due dei rapitori si sarebbero arresi alla polizia dopo uno scontro a fuoco in una zona montagnosa vicino a Bosasso, ma non è ancora chiara la sorte delle due operatrici umanitarie. Il Puntland, una zona relativamente tranquilla rispetto al sud della Somalia, sta diventando sempre più teatro di scontri, ma finora Msf non mai ricevuto attacchi diretti o minacce.
