The Goletta Verde (Green Schooner) Campaign, implemented by Italian environmental NGO Legambiente will visit Albania, July 24-26, 2006. The visit, that will cover Saranda and “Butrint” National Park, is a part of the journey that touched other Mediterranean countries (France, Spain, Tunisia, Algeria, Italy, Greece, Albania and Croazia), to promote marine and coastal parks and raise citizens’ awareness on the need to protect a crucial resource for millions of people, the Mediterranean Sea.

A recent study at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, USA, claims that the combined effect of air pollution (aerosols/particulate matter) and greenhouse gases may induce greater variability in the Indian monsoon — heightening its intensity or weakening it.

EU:n ympäristöministerien tulisi keskittyä enemmän Itämeren suojeluun, painotti WWF viestissään EU:n ympäistöministerien kokoukselle. EU-politiikalla sekä EU:n ja Venäjän välisen yhteistyön sisällöllä on ratkaiseva merkitys Itämeren tulevaisuudelle, järjestö huomautti viikonloppuna pidetyn kokouksen osanottajille.

MY Esperanza, an iconic campaigning ship of the environmental group Greenpeace, docked at Chennai Port this morning for a week-long tour of the sub-continent to highlight the fragile beauty and vulnerability of India's coastal and marine ecosystems. This is the Esperanza's maiden voyage to India, although the country has played host to the Rainbow Warrior and the Arctic Sunrise, part of the Greenpeace fleet, on three prior occasions.

A great international protest against the planned construction of two LNG (Liquid Natural Gas) terminals near Trieste were held on July 1 in this North Adriatic city. The two terminals are to be located in the open sea, near the sear boundary with Slovenia, while the other will be built inland.
