Monumenti illuminati contro la pena di morte
11/30/2006 Più di trenta capitali e 500 città nel mondo hanno aderito all'iniziativa per mettere al bando la pena di morte promossa per il quinto anno consecutivo dalla Comunità Sant'Egidio di Roma. Stasera 30 novembre, tutti i monumenti simbolo delle città che aderiscono all'inziativa "Città per la vita" verranno illuminati a partire dal Colosseo a Roma fino al Palazzo della Moneda a Santiago del Cile. "Un grido contro la pena di morte che parte da Roma per scuotere le coscienze e dire no alle esecuzioni" - affermano i promotori che se da un lato notano come nell'ultimo decennio 40 Paesi hanno abolito la pena di morte - e in questi Paesi gli omicidi si sono ridotti del 20 per cento - dall'altro la pena capitale continua in numerosi Paesi tra cui la Cina (il cui numero di esecuzioni varia secondo le fonti da 2000 a 8000), Iran, Arabia Saudita e Usa dove sono state 60 le esecuzioni registrate e dove solo nel marzo del 2005 sono state messe al bando le esecuzioni nei confronti dei minorenni. Secondo il recente rapporto di Amnesty International sono più di 20mila i condannati a morte nel mondo.
