E’ stata inaugurata oggi, 27 luglio a Montevideo, con la partecipazione della Viceministra per la cooperazione internazionale italiana Patrizia Sentinelli, la prima Bottega del commercio equo e economia solidale in Uruguay. Il progetto denominato “Ecosol” prevede una serie di iniziative di interscambio con le nascenti esperienze di reti di “Altraeconomia” uruguayane, favorendo la creazione di spazi di commercializzazione di prodotti dell’economia solidale nell’area del Mercosur. Il progetto, infatti, ha avuto anche il sostegno della Regione Lazio Assessorato all’Ambiente e Cooperazione tra i Popoli ed è stato coordinato dall’Associazione Reorient assieme a Formin e Terre Madri.

Nel 2006 i consumatori di tutto il mondo hanno speso 1,6 miliardi di euro per l’acquisto di prodotti a marchio Fairtrade: lo ripotta FLO, il coordinamento internazionale dei marchi di garanzia del commercio equo e solidale. L’aumento del 41% rispetto all’anno precedente ha portato dei vantaggi ad oltre un milione e quattrocentomila produttori e lavoratori del sud del mondo. Nel nostro paese Fairtrade TransFair Italia certifica i prodotti di 69 aziende licenziatarie presenti in 4500 punti vendita della piccola, media e grande distribuzione e 55 gruppi di produttori, con un fatturato al consumo stimato di 35 milioni di euro.
