12/16/2005 More than 66 million of the world's poorest people, 84 percent of them women, received tiny loans last year to start or expand micro businesses, according to a report released by the Microcredit Summit Campaign. The Campaign, a project of the U.S.-based non-governmental organization RESULTS Educational Fund, seeks to reach 100 million of the world's poorest families with microcredit by the end of 2005. End of 2005 data will be released at the Global Microcredit Summit to be held November 2006 in Halifax.

12/16/2005 Centinaia di milioni di bambini oggetto di gravi sfruttamenti e discriminazioni sono diventati invisibili al mondo, afferma l'UNICEF in un importante rapporto che esamina le cause dell'esclusione e degli abusi subiti dai bambini. Secondo il rapporto UNICEF "La Condizione dell'infanzia nel mondo 2006 - Esclusi e invisibili" presentato ieri a Londra e, in contemporanea, a Roma e in altre capitali del mondo, milioni di bambini scompaiono quando cadono vittime del traffico o sono costretti a lavorare come servi. Sono vittime di una quotidiana emergenza dimenticata, invisibile anche se si consuma sotto gli occhi del mondo: 50 milioni di piccoli che non vengono neppure registrati all'anagrafe, con la conseguente esclusione da ogni forma di controllo e di assistenza, 171 milioni di bambini impiegati in lavori ad alto rischio, 2 milioni sfruttati dall'industria del sesso, oltre 100 milioni che non hanno mai visto un'aula scolastica.
