The UN Commission for Sustainable Development presented the report on youth and the MDGs. The Report was prepared by an international team of youth experts and it offers recommendations to foreign and national institutions to involved the youth in the implementation of the Millenium Development Goals.

In occasione della giornata mondiale contro la malaria, che si celebra il 25 aprile, l'associazione umanitaria internazionale Medici Senza Frontiere (MSF) si dichiara gravemente insoddisfatta in quanto i governi dei Paesi ricchi, l'OMS, l'UNICEF e il Global Fund, si rifiutano di ammettere che la strategia globale per la lotta alla malaria sta fallendo. Nell'aprile del 2001 l'OMS aveva raccomandato che i Paesi più colpiti dalla malaria scegliessero medicine più efficaci, visto che le forme più virulente di malaria sono divenute resistenti ai vecchi farmaci nella stragrande maggioranza dei Paesi in cui erano adoperati. Ma la grande maggioranza di Paesi sta continuando a usare farmaci che non funzionano più. La gente continua a morire perché la comunità internazionale ha fallito nel diffondere sufficientemente la nuova strategia terapeutica.

Al termine della 61. Conferenza annuale della Commissione per i Diritti Umani dell'ONU, l'Associazione per i Popoli Minacciati (APM) ha tratto un bilancio alquanto deludente. L'APM prende atto dell'incapacità della Commissione di imporre a livello internazionale degli standard minimi di rispetto dei diritti umani. In una lettera aperta alla Commissaria per i Diritti Umani Louise Arbour, l'APM ha accusato la Commissione di tacere per motivi politici su gravi violazioni quali genocidi e crimini contro l'umanità. Durante tutta la conferenza non sono mai stati chiamati per nome i responsabili della morte di centinaia di migliaia di persone, né per quanto riguarda i crimini commessi in Congo o in Sudan, né per quanto riguarda la Cina e la Russia. L'APM chiede anche che la riforma del Consiglio per i diritti umani comporti un rafforzamento del ruolo delle organizzazioni non governative all'interno del Consiglio stesso. Entro il 20 maggio Louise Arbour dovrà presentare un rapporto con le raccomandazioni per la riforma prevista.

Marsi Pul, portparol UNMIK-a izjavila je da "preliminarni rezultati pokazuju da je pećina, kao i njena okolina, upotrebljena za ostavljanje ljudskih ostataka".

UNMIK forensic experts investigate a cave in a village near Klina, suspected of holding the remains of non-Albanians killed during the latest war. Marcia Poole, UNMIK spokesperson, said that, "…preliminary results show that the cave and its surroundings have been used for placing human remains”.

U toku prošle godine u Srbiji i Crnoj Gori podnete su 24 krivične prijave protiv 51 lica zbog trgovine ljudima. Među žrtvama bilo je 22 maloletnih lica i dece, 13 dece bila su žrtve seksualne esploatacije, osam namenjeno prosjačenju, a jedno žensko dete bilo je namenjeno sklapanju prinudnog braka. Srbija se smatra zemljom tranzita.

YK:n ja kansainvälisen yhteisön on pystyttävä nykyistä paremmin vastaamaan globaaleihin uhkakuviin, koskevat ne sitten terrorismia, sotilaallisen väliintulon uhkaa, köyhyyttä tai ympäristön rappeutumista, sanoi ulkoministeri Erkki Tuomioja YK-liiton vuosikokousseminaarissa. Ulkoministeri painotti YK:n syyskuun huippukokouksen tärkeyttä ja YK:n uudistumisen välttämättömyyttä.
