02/04/2008 I ribelli del Ciad hanno lasciato la scorsa notte la capitale n'Djamena "per offrire alla popolazione la possibilità di scappare": le strade della città sono pattugliate dai militari, dopo i duri scontri di ieri, che hanno visto le forze governative far intervenire elicotteri e carrarmati rompere l'assedio al Palazzo Presidenziale. Il Segretario generale dell'Onu è "profondamente allarmato per la situazione pericolosa in Ciad" ed ha espresso particolare preoccupazione per il "deteriorarsi della già grave situazione umanitaria dei 285.000 rifugiati e di 180.000 sfollati interni che si trovano nel Ciad orientale". Il Consiglio di Sicurezza dell'Onu si riunirà in una sessione d'urgenza per discutere la situazione. Rinviata la missione Eufor Ciad-Rca, rimane da vedere se la Francia deciderà di intervenire a sostegno del regime o lasciare gli eventi fare il loro corso.

01/30/2008 Chadian President Idriss Deby has affirmed that nearly half of the 180,000 displaced people in Chad will return to their homes by July. Local and UN officials believe this may be possible if security requirements are met.
