Tre giorni dopo la bocciatura, da parte della commissione Esteri del Senato, del piano Bush per l'invio di altri 21.500 soldati la manifestazione convocata da United for Peace and Justice, una coalizione di circa 1.400 gruppi, locali e nazionali, contrari alla guerra, ha visto la partecipazione di tanta gente comune, ma anche leader Democratici, star di Hollywood - tra cui Jane Fonda, Sean Penn, Susan Sarandon e Tim Robbins - e parenti dei soldati di stanza in Iraq, arrivati da ogni parte degli Stati Uniti.
