Il governo deve assicurare che tutti i responsabili delle violazioni dei diritti umani commesse sotto il regime di Pinochet siano portati di fronte alla giustizia. Deve inoltre annullare la legge d'amnistia emanata sotto il regime di Pinochet, che ha finora protetto i responsabili di violazioni dei diritti umani" - afferma un comunicato di Amnesty International. La morte dell'ex dittatore "costituisce un potente monito sulla necessità di una giustizia rapida e incisiva nei casi che riguardano violazioni dei diritti umani" - afferma Amnesty. In tutta l'America Latina, decine e decine di ex militari, responsabili di decine di migliaia di casi di “sparizioni”, uccisioni e torture continuano a vivere in esilio e a godere di un'impunità totale.
