Leading the Leaders on U.S. Kyoto Ratification

Sign to Save the Planet: Add Your Name to the People's Ratification of the Global Warming Treaty

On Feb. 16 the Kyoto Protocol on Global Warming went into effect. While it has its flaws, the treaty represents the best effort to stop the overheating of the planet that threatens to throw into chaos the ecosystems on which we all depend, and which is already impacting communities and the environment in the earth’s most sensitive regions.

Unfortunately, the US is one of only two major industrial nations—the other being Australia—that has not ratified the treaty. This is madness. Although we in the US are only five percent of the world’s population, we consume 25 percent of the world’s fossil fuels. Yet our political “leaders” refuse to join the rest of the world in trying to stop perhaps the greatest challenge facing human civilization.

If the leaders won’t lead, then We the People must. That’s why Global Exchange—in collaboration with Greenpeace USA, Rainforest Action Network and other groups—is sponsoring a People’s Ratification of the Global Warming Treaty. Please take action TODAY and add your name to the ratification petition.
