What Can You Do?

  • Join Anti-Slavery International’s “Stop Human Traffic” campaign. Their web site has a petition you can sign, offers e-cards you can send to friends about human trafficking, and has information about international laws that you can support.

  • In the U.S., the Polaris Project runs a program where you can report suspected trafficking cases to 1-866-US-TIPLINE.

  • There are 22 human trafficking “meet-up” groups across the United States with nearly 200 registered members already. The Washington, D.C. group alone has 113 members and meets the second Tuesday of each month. Find a group in your area.

  • Want to get more involved or just keep talking about the issue? Pose questions to Polaris Project staff, participate in a discussion about a particular region or trafficking topic, or just introduce yourself to the online community to get the ball rolling! Join in the discussion.

  • Project Hope International conducts programs on anti-trafficking service and advocacy in the USA, Thailand, and Cambodia. These activities include information on research trips to Southeast Asia.

  • At GlobalGiving, you can learn about and fund locally run social and environmental projects from around the world. One of their projects is working to prevent bonded labor in Nepal.

  • Ashoka, in conjunction with Polaris Project and Vital Voices, announces an awards competition to discover the most effective, innovative strategies for ending human trafficking. Changemakers Innovation Awards include $5,000 cash prizes for each of three winners who are selected by visitors voting at Changemakers.net. Organizations from any country may submit anti-trafficking initiatives. Background articles, contest rules, judging criteria, a contest entry form, and supporting materials are available online.

  • The Academy for Educational Development has a web site whose purpose is to bring governments and NGOs in the East Asia/Pacific region together to cooperate in efforts to combat human trafficking. The site lists upcoming conferences and events in this region.
