Monitoring the Run-Up to Mexico's Wide Open Vote

The Mexican presidential election of July 2, 2006, will be the first since the end of the 71-year power monopoly of the old ruling party, the PRI. Despite the vast improvements to Mexico's electoral procedures, concerns persist about the fairness of the process. In keeping with a long history of international election monitoring, Global Exchange is currently in the process of observing the July 2 Presidential Election in Mexico. We just released a report from our observation team in Mexico from June 3-12 on the pre-election conditions, and we are organizing a second observation mission that begins June 27th.

Meanwhile, our intrepid correspondent John Gibler is traveling with the Zapatistas Otra Campana monitoring the grassroots attempt to mobilize Mexico's disenfranchised and indigenous poor.

You can travel to Mexico during this incredible time on a Reality Tour.
