Visit their education projects page to learn more about programs taking place everywhere from Niger to Nicaragua. ____________________________________________ Support Other Education Initiatives: Education International Learn more about World Teachers’ Day, happening this year on October 5, through Education International, a coalition of organizations that supports education workers worldwide. Teachers, as well as parents and students, can find ways to highlight World Teachers’ Day in their classrooms here, or download posters and flyers. Free the Children Free the Children is run by youth for youth and, among its initiatives, it works on education projects such as building schools and education centers for marginalized children in Kenya, Sierra Leone, rural China, and Sri Lanka. Find out more about their build a school and adopt a village campaigns, or assemble a school kit packed with the essentials to send to a child who needs it. Global Campaign for Education Although the Global Action Week for 2006 has passed, keep your eyes on the site of the Global Campaign for Education to get involved next April and raise your voice to ensure governments deliver the right to education for all. Millennium Campaign Achieving universal primary education is one of the Millennium Development Goals. Check out the site of the Millennium Campaign to see which regional initiatives you can get involved with. Save the Children Save the Children features a number of ways for parents and their children to get involved, including the moneybox project and an annual art contest. Interested in learning more? UNICEF As part of its focus on the rights and needs of children everywhere, UNICEF works to improve access to and the quality of education. Kids can also take action by participating in the annual trick-or-treat for UNICEF campaign, and older students can explore UNICEF’s Campus Initiative. **Get talking!
