"Keeping our food sources safe and natural"Author:

Comment: I voted for Vandana Shiva,
I have watched PBS and other programs about her work. She has been working tirelessly for so many many years. When I saw that she beat a company that tried to sell GMO seeds to India thinking that because these farmers are poor that they are stupid or ignorant. I was thrilled when she won her fight to keep normal farmers safe from these agribusiness giants out to destroy and control natural food sources and our health! All the nominees are great people doing good works and it is hard to choose. But I see Ms. Shiva's work as key, for if we allow big business and their greed to control our food sources how do we have the energy, the intelligence, all that God's food provides our bodies to fight the good fight. |
"IPCC"Author:
William Gunyon

Comment: the IPCC have done a fantastically consistent job in the science of climate change since their first report in 1990. Without their rigorous methods of peer review, the anti-global warming oil business lobby would have won the argument and there would be no discussion now about a new Kyoto Protocol.

"Prioritizing isn't simple"Author:
Marti Cockrell
Time: 01/22/2008 23:22
Comment: In a group of such noteworthy people and causes, it is difficult to put one above the others. In 'normal' times on the planet, it would even be close to impossible, for all seem equally deserving of our admiration and gratitude for their selfless service to others. However, this year, there is one issue that is finally rising to the surface as the most important of all -- if we don't stop global warming and take care of our planet, we won't be able to focus on anything else at all.

Comment: I voted Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change but wish I could vote for all of the candidates. All of them are worthwhile.

"About time!"Author:
Jeffrey Allen
Time: 01/22/2008 04:55
Comment: Hopefully we'll look back someday and say Vicky Tauli-Corpuz was right, the day the UN passed the indigenous rights declaration really was the moment we began to reconcile with past painful histories and make up for the way indigenous peoples have been treated across the planet.
